quin·ce·a·ñe·ra
/ˌkinsāənˈyerə/
noun
-
(in Latin America and among Latinos) a celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthood, typically involving a mass followed by a party.
ANDREA, THE AMATEUR CHOREOGRAPHER
I started choreographing quinceañeras when I was fifteen.
I started with my own, teaching myself and my chambelanes (aka chamberlains or escorts) the traditional waltz and "surprise dance". From there, I started choreographing some of my cousins' dances and now, every now and then, I'm called to choreograph other girls' quinceañeras! Below are a few examples:
JULY 2021: ALESHKA
Waltz: "8 Letters" by Why Don't We
Surprise dance: a mix of zapateado, huapango, cumbia.
OCTOBER 2021: DIANA
Waltz: "Vals de las Mariposas" by Danny Daniel
